I asked my grandmother Gene Taylor to tell me the story behind this series of photographs taken by her husband, and this was her reply:
“Grandpa and I flew to Denver, Colorado in 1956 and toured the Western States . He worked for an Oil Company and his job was to inspect oil wells and hold safety meetings with the workers. We rented a car and went to South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Utah. My favorite place was Jackson Hole, Wyoming where we saw the Grand Teton mountains. (you don’t need to put that in the blog).”
I found the last tidbit interesting enough to include. Some of the photographs like Ben A. with Chicken, Jennifer in a colorful skirt, and what appears to be a mardi gras parade were likely taken at their home in Louisiana.
I hope you all enjoy these photographs taken by the late Ben D. Taylor. I surely do.

Introduction by Ben A. Taylor
After childhood and then freshly out of high school, Dad’s experiences in World War ll must have been pretty profound. They must have stayed with him thereafter and seemed to give him a strong philosophical bent. Though, like many other WW ll vets, he didn’t seem to obsess on this part of his past and only occasionally recounted a favorite war story now and then. It was after he got on in years and reconnected with his ex-comrades-in-arms that he helped organize and rendezvous with them and develop a newsletter for the group.
He left a box full of notes apparently meant to elaborate on things he wanted to include in this newsletter as well as copies of the newsletter itself. Right on top was this essay he must have written just after coming back home from the Pacific Theater that encapsulated his experience.
